KENNESAW — Jake Allen made his first start of the season at quarterback, threw for 125 yards and two touchdowns, and lifted Mount Paran Christian to a 49-13 victory over Fellowship Christian.

Friday’s victory did not come easy, as Mount Paran had to overcome a number of injuries and a continuation of this season’s theme of turning over the football.

“We were down a couple lineman,” Mount Paran coach Mitch Jordan said. “We have a freshman snapper who’s played at 100 percent. He missed a couple snaps tonight, but we’ll get that corrected.”

The win improved to Eagles to 2-5, but 2-1 in Region 6A (B) to keep them within striking distance of a potential subregion championship.

Kyle Trammell, who ran for 102 yards, got Mount Paran on the board first with a 5-yard touchdown run. A 38-yard pass from Allen to Matt McKenzie later in the first quarter pushed the Eagles lead to 13-0.

McKenzie added a 22-yard touchdown run and Allen added his second touchdown pass of the night, a 23-yarder to Taylor Trammell gave Mount Paran a 26-7 lead at the break.

Kyle Trammell, Douglas Legg and Garrett Harris each added touchdowns in the second half.

“A win’s a win,” Jordan said. “The kids played hard. It was sloppy early on, we still had some big penalties and two turnovers.”

The Eagles overcame three fumbles, two of which resulted in a turnovers with one costing Mount Paran a touchdown when the Paladins’ Tyler Hart scored a 29-yard touchdown at the end of the second quarter.

“I think that we are playing really good, but turnovers are killing us,” running back Keith Johnson said. “We are better than 2-5. We’re probably the best 2-5 team in our region, we are better than our record shows.”

Johnson finished the night with 81 yards rushing.
