Mr. William “Bill” W. Johnson Sr., age 59, of Hayesville, N.C., formerly of Birmingham, Ala., died Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, in Asheville, N.C. Funeral service will be at Carmichael Funeral Home Chapel at 12 p.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2014, with the Rev. Daryle Nichols officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga. Mr. Johnson was a retired military Veteran with 25 years of service. He served in the United States Marines from 1972 until 1976 during the Vietnam War, and then enlisted into United States Army National Guard serving in Afghanistan and two tours in Iraq. He was employed by the Cobb County School System Bus Shop, North Georgia Technical College and Chattahoochee Technical College as a Diesel Mechanic Instructor. Preceding Mr. Johnson in death is his son, William W. Johnson Jr. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Johnson of Hayesville, N.C.; father, Hubert Gene Johnson of Calera, Ala.; son, Casey Alan Johnson of Seattle, Wash.; two stepsons, Jason Scott Buckner of San Antonio, Texas, and Nathan Shane Buckner of Marietta, Ga.; and a beloved black Lab, Annie. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 3, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO BOX 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
