EDITOR'S NOTE: Below is a selection of responses shared by readers of MDJOnline.com in reaction to recent MDJ stories ...

Cobb sheriff asks GBI to investigate Board of Regents ...

Watcher wrote - Kudos to Cobb's great sheriff.

Truth is Freedom wrote - This idea of "taking a spot" from another student is completely incorrect, because there is no cap on enrollment at KSU. Any student who meets the admissions requirements is able to enroll.

Law-abiding citizen wrote - For those of you that think the illegal students should be admitted just because they have the GPA for it...a lot of legal students have the GPA or higher but there are only so many spots. Bringing diversity to the college is a big thing right now. It is more difficult for white males to get in to our schools - they are being denied to make spots for more diverse students. Isn't that discrimination, too?

Ack wrote - Thank goodness the anti-immigrants like D.A. King are out there to save us from these hardened criminals. It's as if no natural born citizen commits a crime. News flash: more murders are committed by citizens than illegal immigrants. Instead of just buying into the sensationalism, do your own research and form your own opinion. Talk about myth busting ... what you find out about the issue will surprise you. Of course, this assumes you're not just an entitled, anti-immigrant bigot to begin with.

Daveyy wrote - Ack, why do you assume people have not thought this out or do not know people that are here illegally? Do you believe you are the only enlightened soul around? Couldn't it be that people have thought this issue through and have decided it is better to obey the law and do things the right way?

CSK1 wrote - If this is all the sheriff has to do with his time, throw him out and elect someone who will actually do something productive. I'm a teacher in southern Cobb County and the majority of my students are most likely illegal immigrants or the children of them. I welcome them with open arms because they don't cause half the problems or discipline issues the "American" students do. As long as they want to learn, who gives a rip whether they are here legally? Those of you that are angry about illegals, you're not going to win anyway, so quit whining!

Get Real wrote - I have to agree with Gov. Perdue that "the University System of Georgia and Board of Regents' job is to educate." If a child is accepted into a university with a 3.8 GPA they did not take anyone's seat. They earned it. There is always some false image put out there by people that someone's seat has been taken, which is simply never the case.

Anonymous wrote - To Get Real: Are you really that stupid? If an illegal is admitted regardless of GPA, then they have taken the spot of a legal citizen who might otherwise have been accepted. Plain and simple. It's nice to know that we have at least two MEN in Georgia by the name of King and Warren.

Mr. G wrote - I agree with "Get Real," if a student works hard and has a high enough GPA to enter college, then why not let them attend? Since when is it such a horrible crime for a student to earn an education? Our sheriff has nothing better else to do with his time?

Daveyy wrote - GetReal, you're wrong about your statement that illegal aliens with 3.8 GPAs have earned a spot in college. The law clearly states that illegal aliens are not eligible for post-secondary education. How does someone earn something they are disqualified from receiving? Secondly, it is widely known that colleges and universities have a set amount of spots for incoming freshmen every year for budgetary reasons. It appears that you are ignorant of basic college SOP. Please educate yourself before responding again.

Pat H wrote - Thank you, D.A. Thank you, Sheriff Warren. Please GBI, do the job you are paid to do.

Sprdprmom wrote - Hey Sheriff Warren, give yourself a big pat on the back. I sick of paying for taxes to educate and feed the illegals. Get them out of Cobb and back into DeKalb.

Linda Waller wrote - Hey, Sheriff Warren for doing the jobs so many people should be doing! That is why I voted for you! Let's see more people make the right decisions.

West Cobb Resident wrote - It's time for my tax dollars to stop supporting illegals using our public universities.

Marie in Marietta wrote - Thank god for men like Sheriff Warren and Mr. King. Where are the rest of our "leaders"?

Good job, Sheriff wrote - Why is it that Warren is the only one in this state following the letter of the law and being criticized for his actions? These students are taking someone else's spot in college. Not to mention, people who come to the USA legally from other countries have to go through stacks of paperwork and pay up to $ 10,000 to be here legally. Why should illegals think it is their right to break the law and then have these organizations state we are infringing on their civil rights? You don't have rights if you are not legal!

Judy M wrote - Estimates run from 12 million to 38 million illegal aliens and our government has no idea just how many are really here. Only 7.5 million hold jobs, so what are the rest doing for a living? If you are hungry and ask me for food, I will willingly share what I have with you. If you break into my house, steal my food and demand that I leave the door unlocked, you will not be welcomed.

Mayor’s moves: Tumlin acts to open up city meetings …

East Mariettan wrote — Thank you, thank you, Mayor Steve Tumlin! Take back our city for the taxpayers/residents and leave (Councilman) Philip Goldstein’s dirty dealings behind. By changing the meeting location to a larger and public place, all of Goldstein’s back-room tactics are exposed to a larger audience. Anyone who has ever had to deal with Marietta City Council knows this. The “Meetings of the Whole” were a joke — no transparency, no input from residents attending, just the opportunity for Goldstein to size up and intimidate council members.

Sigh of Relief wrote — Wow. Finally as a Marietta resident I can breathe a sigh of relief that someone with some integrity and common sense is at the helm.

Shopgirl on Square wrote — Go, Thunder. Great changes!

Sheriff Warren should probably apply for a job at USCIS because he seems to be a lot more interested in getting illegals to relocate and rent apartments in Gwinnett than he is catching criminals in Cobb County.

To Truth is Freedom-What turnip truck or liberal bandwagon did you fall of? You are just plain lying! KSU does have an enrollment cap on undergraduates and they darn sure do have a cap on graduate programs. Go ask the head of the nursing program if they allow everyone who meets their requirements.

To All of You who think anyone with the GPA should be admitted to college or ES or HS- The overwhelming majority of the parents of these children do not pay ANY income tax. They are paid in cash by Americans who do this to hide how much income they are making. The most the illegals pay is sales tax, NOT SS tax, NOT Federal Withholding, NOT state income tax. Then they wire back over 50% of the money they make ILLEGALLY to Mexico.

So another part of the punishment should be to heavily fine employers. Employers must be verify the legal status of every employee and keep the proof for gov't inspection AND deport the ILLEGALS.
