On March 3, the Women in Philanthropy "Heart to Heart" Social, a WellStar Foundation event, was conducted at the Kennesaw home of Linda Flournoy. Dr. Nydia Bladuell, Interventional Cardiologist with WellStar Cardiovascular Medicine and Julie Stebbins, Director of WellStar Cardiac Wellness and Rehab, spoke to the group on women's heart health. Both made excellent presentations addressing steps that women can and should take to maintain a healthy heart.

This year, the women's annual member donations of $1,000 will help fund the Children's Retreat at WellStar Community Hospice at Kennesaw Mountain, as well providing dollars to women in need for early lung cancer screenings through the International Early Lunch Cancer Action Program study.

Kim Gresh and Linda McKinley Hagood co-chaired women's giving.

Among the attendees were Dr. Ann Baker, Deb Budinski, Debbie Butler, Suse Ann Gresh, Kathy Holt, Rene Lanier, Barbara LoRusso, Sandy Miller, Pam Shank, Sandy White and Sue H. Wyatt.

Lassiter High School teacher and coach Jim Brown, a member of the Infantry, United States Army Reserve, was recently given notice of his deployment to Afghanistan. His last day at LHS was March 12.

Deeply moved by this news, LHS honored Coach Brown on March 9 at a special ceremony by LHS's ROTC where he received a plaque from Principal Chris Shaw. Following the ceremony, Coach Brown and LSH staff members enjoyed a cake decorated with an American Flag.

Capt. Bill Wilkerson, Capt. Lorenzo Cox, and Administrator Ashlynn Campbell coordinated the ceremony.
