Best Dang Bakery Around in Woodstock is coming back with a different look next week.

Ross Byrne, owner of the bakery at 9539 Highway 92, plans to reopen his doors on Tuesday. His shop has been closed for about two and a half months as a result of the September floods.

Floodwaters from Noonday Creek, which flows right behind the bakery, reached as high as 40 inches inside the store.

"It is not like we took a vacation. We have to start all over from scratch," he said, adding that it felt like he was opening a new store rather than just reopening.

The new store will look different to his customers. The bakery has expanded from 2,000 square feet to 3,000 square feet. New features include a cake decorating room, about four extra feet of displays, a lounging area and a washroom for customers.

"I felt that it was a positive thing to do," Byrne said about taking the opportunity to expand the store.

Even though the bakery has been closed, Byrne has still been fielding requests for his services. He did some cooking at home during the Thanksgiving holiday - preparing meals, side dishes and pies for people.

He is anxious to open soon with the Christmas holiday fast approaching.

"Two people came by yesterday saying, 'We need our Christmas pies,'" he said, adding that customers continuously drop by the bakery to see what is happening and when he will reopen. "The majority of them are missing my donuts. People are screaming for my donuts."

Byrne said he will have his usual line of products once he is back in business, including breads, brownies, cakes (including custom and specialty cakes), cookies, danishes, muffins, pastries, pies and those popular donuts.

He also will offer his to-go Express Meals, an item he said was just taking off when the floodwaters hit. The meals include lasagna, chicken pot pie, stuffed peppers, beef stroganoff and chicken and broccoli alfredo.

Byrne said he plans to add more to the meals menu after the holidays. Later in the winter, he plans on introducing soups and a line of fat-free and low-fat items.

While usually closed on Mondays, the bakery will be open on Mondays during the month of December.
