Hazel Evelyn D. Sego, age 90, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2014. She was born to the late Carl T. Douglas and Hattie Shepherd Douglas on June 17, 1924 in Birmingham, Alabama. Evelyn grew up in Birmingham. She was a member of Highland Park Methodist Church and active in the Women’s Junior Chamber of Commerce. She later moved to Montgomery, Alabama where she spent more than 30 years with her husband Frank J. Sego. She was active in Apartment Management and later employed with the Montgomery Apartment Association. Throughout her years in Montgomery, Evelyn was active in the community, supporting work of the local Exchangette Club, various St. James School organizations, and a long-time member of First United Methodist Church. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and were life-long Auburn University supporters. In early 2000, she moved to Marietta, Georgia to live with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. Spending time with her grandchildren became her greatest joy. Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband Frank J. Sego in 1999, her two sisters, Mary Harris and Laura Douglas, and her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Michielle Sego Johnson; son-in-law, Michael Lee Johnson; niece, Carol Harris Pair; and her two grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Zachary Franklin Johnson and Lacie Elise Johnson. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at a visitation on Saturday, August 30, 2014 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the H.M. Patterson & Son Funeral Home located at 1157 Old Canton Road, Marietta, Georgia 30068. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 31, 2014 at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church, 2416 W. Cloverdale Park, Montgomery, Alabama 36106. Visitation will take place at the church prior to the service at 1:00 pm. Burial will be on Tuesday, September 2, at 1 PM in Birmingham, Alabama at Ridout’s Forest Crest Cemetery, 5730 Highway 78 E, Birmingham, Alabama 35210. The family wishes to thank those who helped care for Evelyn most recently, they include; Angel Heart Homecare, The Carlton of Sandy Springs, and Homestead Hospice.
