Alice (Rusty) Hunter Sternagle was born on September 13, 1947, to the late Dick Hunter (former mayor of Marietta) and Jeannette Hunter, the second of twelve children, in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Alice was a lifelong resident of Marietta, Georgia. She passed away on August 22, much to the heartache of all who loved her. Alice led an amazing life and was a much-loved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. Alice, known to most as Rusty (in honor of her fiery red hair), was a woman of unshakable calm, confidence, grace, and style, with a vibrant personality and a beautiful smile. She was a graphic artist and a true artist in every sense of the word, from her work in graphic design, to her undeniable flair for fashion, to her natural talents for painting and drawing. Her gift for finding and creating beauty could not be matched. Alice was a lover of sports and glamour, who was renowned for combining the two whenever possible, unafraid to play second base in pearls, pantyhose, and hot pants. She loved sewing, gardening, high heels, cats, bird-watching, playing her guitar, calligraphy, and was a formidable Scrabble player. She will be eternally loved and missed by her husband, Jim, her son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Beth Shore, her grandchildren Miles and Ella, to whom she was incredibly devoted, and her step-children, Kelly Crantas, Joseph and Jacob Sternagle, and step-grandchildren, Lee and Justin Gibson, Ashley Crantas, Olivia and Isabella Sternagle. She is additionally survived by her mother Jeannette, her three sisters and six brothers, and countless nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers Jay and Frank, and is survived by brothers Don, Tom, Chuck, Rick, Rob, and Ty, and by her sisters Pattie Bagley, Jeanne Hunter, and Sherry Kaskie.Memorial Service will be held at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home, 180 Church St. N.E. Marietta, Georgia on August 28, 2014 at 6:00pm. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 to 6:00 pm with services following in the chapel. www.mayeswarddobbins.com (770) 428-1511

I have been out of touch with Rusty and so remorse to her of her death, can any one tell me what happened? was it accident, or has she been ill? She and I shared grief over our mutual friend Marlene Wade who passed away nearly 2 years ago.

My heart goes out to JIM and ROY!

As I sit here wondering what I should say about Rusty, I find it difficult to share so many things I feel. When my husband Ken and I first moved to Marietta, we as so many others, moved into an apartment. Then a year laterwe looked for a house to rent, we found not only a place we loved, but the fiery redhead Rusty. What began as a landlady tenant relationship, developed into a friendship. Rusty was warm funny and caring. When my husband was in the hospital, she called me and said, "Hey girl!! making a grocery store run, need anything? She was someone I could talk to about anything, and was always there and understanding. I will miss her, and I can only say, Sail on and God's Speed!!
