The City of Kennesaw will have a community blood drive on Oct. 7 from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Ben Robertson Community Center, 2753 Watts Drive in Kennesaw.

Most healthy people who are at least 17 years of age, or 16 with parental consent, and weigh at least 110 pounds are eligible to donate blood every 56 days. The donation process from the time one arrives until the time one leaves typically takes about 45 minutes. The donation itself only takes about eight to 10 minutes.

One pint of blood can save up to three lives. Every two seconds someone needs a blood transfusion and five million patients in the U.S. need blood every year.
