Things will be smokin’ this weekend in the city of Kennesaw. Go to Pigs & Peaches BBQ Festival on today from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Adams Park in Kennesaw.
“Who doesn’t love Pigs & Peaches?” asked David Pies, recreation division manager for the City of Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Department.
The festival features a Kansas City Barbeque Society sanctioned barbecue competition recognized as a Georgia Barbecue Championship contest; as well as a Backyard BBQ, Anything Butt and Peach Dessert Contest. More than $16,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded to contest winners. Public tasting is not offered as part of the BBQ competition. However, there will be dozens of vendors (including several cook teams) who sell barbecue, and other food and beverages at the festival. Fresh peaches and peach desserts including cobbler, ice cream and fried pies will also be available.
“This is a home grown festival that provides excellent publicity and economic impact for the Kennesaw, Cobb County, and the State of Georgia. Not only is the festival a communityfocused event that improves the quality of life for local residents, it also draws contestants and barbeque enthusiasts and attendees from across Georgia and the Southeast, injecting new money into the local economy,” Pies said.
Additional attractions include live music and family entertainment, a Kid Zone with inflatable slides, bounces, games and other fun activities, unique vendor and sponsor exhibits, food and beverage vending, helicopter rides, and a fireworks display on Saturday at 10 p.m.
Adams Park is at 2753 Watts Drive, Kennesaw.
