MARIETTA — An inmate of the Cobb County jail died Monday night, according to a statement from the jail.

Daniel Molnar was found unresponsive in his cell by deputies. Medical personnel responded to his cell and tried to resuscitate Molnar, but he did not respond.

Molnar was taken to Cobb General Hospital and was pronounced dead at 2:52 a.m.

Molnar, 22 of Canton, had been in jail since Aug. 11, when he was arrested in Cherokee County on a felony charge of theft by taking, according to jail booking records.

“Anytime there is a death of an inmate in custody, it is a tragedy for both the family and the staff of the Sheriff’s Office” Cobb Sheriff Neil Warren said. “My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Molnar’s family.”

The Sheriff’s Office Inspectional Services Division, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Medical Examiner’s Office and the Cobb District Attorney’s Office are investigating the death.

Cobb County jail reported its personnel followed all Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures.
