Emily Kachel and Pierce Fox combined for the shutout, with Kachel striking out five and allowing just one hit over 4 2/3 innings.

Emily Harrell pitched a one-hitter for Mount Paran to get the win.
Sprayberry 8, North Springs 0 (5 inn.): The Lady Yellow Jackets scored four runs in the fourth inning at home to shut out North Springs in a Region 7AAAAA game.
Sprayberry had two hits and seven walks in the mercy-rule game.
Charlie Smith was 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI for the Lady Yellow Jackets. Julia Abney was 1-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.
Sprayberry (1-0, 1-0) will host Marietta today.
Pope 7, Marist 1: Pope had a four-run fourth inning to take charge of the non-region contest.
Megan Metzinger was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Quentin Staton was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Kelly Barnhill threw a complete game, giving up just two hits, no earned runs and throwing 16 strikeouts.
The Lady Greyhounds (1-0) will host Chapel Hill for a doubleheader Friday.
North Cobb 3, Brookwood 0: The Lady Warriors made quick work of the Lady Broncos, on their way to a season-opening victory.
North Cobb won 25-20, 25-16, 25-15, behind Savanna Gonzales’ 12 kills.
Jenna Woodruff had five kills and three blocks, while Taylor Parrish finished with 28 assists and two aces. Cristina Matacotta had 11 digs and Abby Miller finished with nine digs.
The Lady Warriors will compete in the state quarterfinalists’ play date Saturday at Wesleyan.
Pope opens with tri-match sweep: The Lady Greyhounds opened the seasons with a sweep over a pair of former area rivals, beating Creekview (25-18, 25-22) and Kell (25-8, 25-15).
Kristen Phillips led Pope (2-0) with 13 kills, while Sedonna Benjamin added 10 kills and matched Samantha Walters with a team-high eight digs. Morgan Dees had 16 assists.
Dees and Phillips each served two aces as well.
Campbell salvages split: The Lady Spartans had a mixed bag in a season-opening tri-match at Wheeler, losing to the host (26-24, 17-25, 25-21) before rallying for a 19-25, 25-17, 25-22 win over Cherokee.
Simone Spencer led Campbell (1-1) with 15 kills, 20 digs and three blocks, while Courtlyn Cash had 33 assists and three blocks. Colbi Nelson added five aces and 22 digs, with Miranda McClure blocking two shots.
Campbell will travel to Whitefield Academy on Thursday for a tri-match with Mount Pisgah Christian.
Mount Paran’s strong start continues: The Lady Eagles improved to 6-1 on the young season, beating Brookstone (25-12, 25-4) and Sprayberry (24-7, 25-19).
Sarah Ramstock finished with 16 kills and 18 digs, while Caroline Cook had 11 kills to go with seven aces and six blocks. Jillian Tucker had 42 assists.
Mount Paran will host McEachern and Galloway for a tri-match Tuesday.
Kennesaw Mountain sweeps tri-match: The Lady Mustangs didn’t drop a set in beating South Cobb (25-5, 25-10) and McEachern (25-18, 25-6).
Kennesaw Mountain (2-0) will travel to Centennial on Thursday for a quad-match that also included Roswell and Riverwood.
