ACWORTH — An Acworth man died from injuries he sustained in a car wreck Thursday.

John Drinko, 71, died after he was involved in a wreck on Lake Acworth Drive near North Main Street, police said.

The wreck occurred when a red 2013 Dodge Ram was traveling eastbound in the left lane of Lake Acworth Drive.

When Michael Whitten, 30, of Dallas, neared North Main Street in the Dodge, police report he tried to change into the right lane and collided with a blue 2010 Mazda driven by Christopher Wilcox, 54, of Marietta.

Wilcox was not injured.

Whitten then steered left and crashed into the front of a Nissan traveling in the westbound lanes traveling the opposite way of the Dodge, according to police.

Whitten was not injured, but Justin Clark, 22, of Dallas, who was in the passenger seat of the Dodge, was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Drinko, the driver of the Nissan, was transported to Kennestone Hospital in Marietta and later died.

Acworth and Cobb County police are continuing to investigate the accident and said they expect to file charges at a later date.

Police ask anyone with information about the accident to call (770) 499-3987.
