MARIETTA — A Cobb County sheriff’s deputy was arrested by Cobb police Saturday on charges of DUI, failure to maintain lane and failure to report an accident — all misdemeanors.

Austin Reese Chadwick, an employee of the Cobb Sheriff’s office for more than two years, was booked into the Cobb County jail Saturday and released the same day on a $1,600 bond, according to an arrest report.

Cobb police responded to the scene of an accident at about 4 a.m. Saturday where a blue Infiniti had struck a semi-trailer at the intersection of Canton Road and Fowler Circle in Marietta, the incident report says.

Officers found the Infiniti unoccupied, but identification cards found in the vehicle indicated the vehicle belonged to Chadwick. Police received information that Chadwick was at his Woodstock home.

The incident report says Chadwick had several serious injuries to his left leg. The report says he told officers he had “really messed up.” Police said they detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath after they arrived at his residence, the report says.

After a field sobriety test, Chadwick was arrested.

In a statement to the Marietta Daily Journal, Cobb Sheriff Neil Warren said Chadwick was placed on administrative leave, pending an Internal Affairs investigation.

I wonder if they tasered him?

Or, if they shot one of his dogs...just because?

Did they show up with the SWAT tank?

Throw any flash bombs in the baby crib?

We need details.

No worries--the blue wall will get these charges buried and covered up---they take care of their own---above the law, and all that. Move along now, nothing to see.

Let me see. They arrested him at home...not the scene. I am guessing he was not far from home, needed help, walked/gotta ride to the house...upset...to get to a phone. Once there, he pulled out a cold one to ease his upset nerves.

He knew he should have stayed at the scene. But, needed to make sure help arrived. He could not assure that without making the call...from his phone(that was at the house).

Rest assured. This guy did not confess to jack poo.

Went home, got worried, slammed some beers, who knows how bad he was at the scene. Unless he already admitted something else...
