The Cobb and Acworth police departments teamed up last week to track down a pair of armed robbery suspects from Missouri.

Acworth police say they became involved in the investigation after they received calls about an armed robbery off Cherokee Street, near Lake Allatoona.

Police say a victim reported two white men stole his 1997 GMC truck at gunpoint at about 1 a.m. July 1.

Later that day, Acworth police say they responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle on Collins Circle off Highway 92.

Officers say they found a Volkswagen Beetle missing a license plate near the area, which they discovered was stolen from Missouri after running the vehicle’s identification number.

The same day, police say they received a tip the stolen GMC’s license plate was in a trashcan outside a residence. Officers from both the Cobb and Acworth police departments found the truck just outside Acworth city limits after searching the area.

Detectives say they received information regarding two suspects from Missouri, leading them to interview Cody Michael Kelley Gains, 17, of House Springs, Mo,. and an unidentified 16-year-old juvenile suspect.

According to police, detectives discovered the pair of suspects was under investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s department in connection with multiple armed robberies that occurred one week prior, including the theft of a Volkswagen Beetle. Acworth and Cobb police say they obtained evidence linking Gains and the juvenile suspect to the armed robberies in Acworth and Missouri.

Both suspects were charged with armed robbery and theft by receiving.

Anyone with any information is urged to call the Acworth Police Department at (770) 974-1232.
