The ancient Chinese martial art of form is performed without high impact and uses minimal strenuous activity. Coupled with Qigong, Kennesaw State University’s Osher Institute is offering two unique classes with the goal of improving students’ well-being. Qigong is the practice of aligning body, breath, and mind for health, meditation, and martial arts training. With roots in Chinese medicine and philosophy, it’s traditionally viewed as a method to cultivate and balance what has been translated as “life energy.” Upcoming courses include:
- Qigong/Tai Chi for Seniors I: Starts July 14 from 10 to 11 a.m. Cost: $119
- Qigong/Tai Chi for Seniors II: Starts July 16 from 10 to 11 a.m. Cost: $119
“I like it when my students leave feeling a little stronger and smarter from having come to the class,” said Phil Robinson, instructor of both courses. “If they leave feeling aglow, then I’ve done my job.” Techniques taught include:
- Stronger posture
- Improved balance
- Strengthened and toned muscles
- Enhanced concentration
- Proper breathing
