Phyllis O. Fowler, age 83, of Acworth, Georgia, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2014. Born in Peyton, Colorado, she was youngest child of the late D. E. and Nina Overholser. Phyllis served her country as a Wave in the Navy and served her community for 2 years on the Acworth Board of Aldermen. Phyllis retired from Lockheed Martin with 28 years of service. Phyllis was a long time member of the Acworth Christian Church. Phyllis was a vibrant personality with a quick wit, a patriotic heart and an unconditional love for her family. Affectionately known to her beloved grandchildren as “Foo Foo”; she enjoyed writing, traveling, genealogy, cooking, playing freecell and watching “The Young & Restless”.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband R. Wayne Fowler, brothers Phillip Overholser (her twin), Gene Overholser, Dan Overholser and an infant brother. Phyllis leaves behind her daughters Marie “Libby” Ray (Scott) and Sharron Burtz (Wayne); grandchildren Matthew Hollifield (Tami), Robert Hollifield (Taranda), Andrew Burtz and Katie Burtz; sister Ava Dixon; great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive guests at Georgia Funeral Care & Cremation in Acworth on Friday, July, 11, 2014, from 6 pm to 8 pm. A memorial celebrating her life will be held at the Acworth Christian Church (4476 Northside Dr, Acworth) at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 12, 2014. Interment to follow at the Liberty Hill Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her husband. Donations in lieu of flowers may be directed to the American Heart Association.

The memorial service and internment have been postponed to a later date to allow immediate family the ability to attend. Family and friends will be notified of the rescheduled date at a later time.

Family will still receive guests on Friday from the hours of 6 pm to 8pm at Georgia Funeral Care and Cremation on S Main in Acworth.
