Johnson, Gilda Jones, 78, of Ellijay, Georgia, formerly of Acworth, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at her home located on her beloved Cartecay River in Ellijay. She is survived by her Husband of 61 years, Joel Johnson; Son, Gary Johnson; Daughter, Marsha Johnson and her Partner, Tessa Bowers, of Waleska, Georgia; Brothers, Bobby Jones and Gary Jones of Ellijay, and Jerry Jones and Eddie Jones of Acworth; Sisters, Bettye Chaplin of Ellijay and Greenville, South Carolina, Faynelle Cox and Joy Frewer of Acworth and Cynthia (Chris) Evans of Villa Rica, Georgia; along with several nieces and nephews. She graduated from Acworth High School, class of 1954, and was employed with Lockheed Aircraft in Marietta, Georgia for a period of time.  She and her Husband, Joel, owned and operated Colony Cleaners on Main Street in Acworth for many years.  They are both still well remembered and respected in the area.  For the past 25 years she and her husband, Joel, have enjoyed residing in Ellijay. She was a lady of beauty, talent and grace.  She will be greatly missed.  May she rest in peace. There will be a Memorial Service in honor of her life held on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Oak Hill United Methodist Church located at 4500 Highway 52 East, Ellijay, Georgia at 11:00 a.m., with a visitation preceding at 10:00 a.m.  Reverend Victor H. Morgan of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church of Blue Ridge, will officiate. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Homeward Bound Pet Rescue, Post Office Box 792, Ellijay, Georgia 30540 to honor her memory and her love of animals.
