Georgia College recently received a $10,000 grant from the Jonas Center for Nursing and Veterans Healthcare.

With matching funds from the university, it will sponsor the scholarship of one doctoral nursing student for the next two years. As a recipient of the Jonas Center grant, Georgia College is part of a national effort to address the faculty shortage and prepare future nurses as America’s health care system continues to evolve.

The Georgia College Jonas Scholar is Kristin Corbin. She begins her doctoral education this summer.

Corbin, who is from Cobb County, has a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Georgia College and recently graduated from the Georgia College Master of Science in Nursing program with a focus in family nurse practitioner. Her proposed research project in the doctoral program is to develop and implement a nurse practitioner-run wellness program utilizing social media.

Aside from her work, Corbin also serves on the board of directors of Honduras Outreach International, whose vision is to create life-changing relationships between the people of developing countries and North Americans.
