Authorities received multiple 911 calls just after 5:30 p.m. Friday about a shooting on Dallas Highway in a shopping plaza across the road from The Avenue West Cobb mall.
Sgt. Dana Pierce with Cobb Police said when officers arrived, they discovered the bodies of a man and a woman who had died from apparent gunshot wounds. He said they were found to the left of the store near a fire lane.
Witness reports said the couple was eating at a restaurant in the shopping plaza when Bruce Strange fled from his wife toward the grocery store.
Paula Strange reportedly chased after him in a Honda Element, firing a gun at her husband several times. Officer Mike Bowman with Cobb Police said Paula Strange shot four times, and according to Cobb’s Medical Examiner’s Office, Bruce Strange was struck twice.
Bowman said no one else was hit with any stray bullets and no other injuries were reported.
“It was a family-owned gun,” said Bowman, who did not know if the gun was typically stored in the vehicle or brought from home.
Cobb Police are still investigating the suspected murder-suicide, and Bowman said detectives do not know what the couple may have been arguing about. Neither one had been arrested before, Bowman said.
Cobb Superior Court records show Paula Strange filed for divorce in May.
In a statement released Saturday referring to the fatal shooting, Kennesaw State University confirmed Paula Strange was an employee of the university, where she served as assistant director of research compliance for more than 10 years.
“Kennesaw State officials express sincere condolences to those impacted by this tragedy, and stand ready to assist those university employees who may desire support,” the statement said. “Grief counseling and other employee assistance support services will be provided as needed to employees who knew or worked with Ms. Strange.”
