A Powder Springs couple has been accused of burning a 7-year-old boy with an iron.

Nicholas and Natasha Vestrand were arrested on May 28 after police say Nicholas Vestrand pressed a hot iron against the bare skin of a young boy one week earlier.

According to arrest warrants, Nicholas Vestrand was trying to teach the victim a lesson when he burned the boy.

Police say the incident left a three-inch mark on the victim’s skin.

Nicholas Vestrand was charged with first degree cruelty to a child, battery, family violence and reckless conduct. Natasha Vestrand was charged with reckless conduct after police say she knowingly allowed the boy to remain in the care of her husband after the incident. Natasha Vestrand was released on bail May 29, while Nicholas Vestrand remains in the county jail.
