On Monday, U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Moultrie) hosted a congratulatory luncheon for 30 Georgia high school seniors and their families, including two from Cobb County. Chambliss nominated the seniors for the United States military academies, and they have since received appointments to the schools.

Service academy graduates commit to serve that branch of military for five years following graduation in exchange for receiving an education valued at approximately $350,000. Those nominees who are accepted into the academies are awarded full four-year scholarships. which include tuition, books, board, medical and dental care.

Local Chambliss nominees who have been accepted by the U.S. Military Academy are Kurt Klinkmueller of Marietta and Matthew McKenzie of Acworth.
