MARIETTA — Authorities say an 85-year-old Army veteran from Marietta died May 28, five days after suffering injuries in a car wreck in east Cobb County.

On May 23, Cobb police say Robert Graves of Marietta was driving southbound on Johnson Ferry Road near the Merchant’s Walk shopping center in a gray 2013 Cadillac ATS. For reasons unknown, Graves turned left into the path of a gray 2011 Acura MDX on Princeton Lakes Drive, according to Sgt. Dana Pierce with Cobb police.

After the collision, Pierce said the driver of the Acura, Ali Ozyazgan, 48, of Marietta, was transported by ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officer Mike Bowman with Cobb police said Tuesday he could not, by law, comment on Ozyazgan’s current medical condition.

Pierce said Graves was also taken by ambulance to the same hospital, but Cobb police learned Tuesday the 85-year-old died May 28.

Though an investigation is ongoing, no charges are expected to be filed, Pierce said.

According to an obituary provided by the Sandy Springs Chapel funeral home, Graves served in the Army from 1954-94.
