Smyrna police put a warrant out for the arrest of a young man under 18 years old who they say committed sexual battery against a girl who is also under 18 on May 28.

According to the warrant, the Smyrna man is charged with three counts of sexual battery, public indecency and simple battery, all misdemeanors, and false imprisonment, a felony. He has not yet been booked in the Cobb County jail, according to the jail log.

The warrant states the incident happened April 21 at the ROTC building on Ward Street in Smyrna. Police said the accused individual cornered the girl into a supply closet. He held her there and exposed himself while threatening to sexually assault her, according to the warrant.

The girl later reported the crime to Smyrna police.

If they are both under the age of 18 and assuming they are both approximately the same age then why is the male here called a "man" while the female is being called a "girl?"
