The sheriff’s office said two “low-risk” work release inmates escaped from the county jail located off County Services Parkway at about 4 p.m. Thursday.
Both men are now back in custody, but not before Marietta Police issued an alert warning people to not pick up pedestrians in the area unless they were known to them.
The men were identified as Richard Hattersley, 44, and Trevor Mandich, 22. Both are from Marietta.
Hattersley was located near the jail and Mandich was found at about 9 p.m., said Nancy Bodiford, sheriff’s office spokeswoman.
On Thursday evening, Bodiford said she didn’t know how the two escaped, but she said more information will be released today.
Hattersley was originally in custody on charges of giving false information to a law officer, obstruction and identity theft. Mandich had previously been charged with probation violation and burglary.
Bodiford said Hattersley is facing an escape charge, but was unsure Thursday evening what further charges were in store for Mandich.
