Monica Delancy (D)

Age: 40 ● Job: Educator/Community Advocate/Six Flags Drive Community Liaison ● Family: 2 children, Brianne, 14, Ernest, 11 ● Residence: Austell ● Education: B.S. Dillard University, Biology ● Website: www.wethriveonthedrive.com

Vision statement: I moved to the Six Flags Drive area/Austell, Georgia in December 2007. I was questioned on numerous occasions why I am moving to the Six Flags Drive area. There were negative statements made about the crime, schools, and people not caring about the community. I knew immediately I had to be involved in the community so I can help change the image. As a parent of two children who were at the time 7 and 5, I could not wait. I needed to be a part of the solution and not carry the message of a negative community. I attended meetings at the schools, and in the community. I learned about the positive programs offered in the Six Flags Drive area. Every time I met someone, or I introduced myself, I stated I was a resident of the Six Flags Drive area, I highlighted the positive programs and We Thrive On The Drive. Once I am elected as the state representative, I will continue to meet with businesses in the district to address public safety concerns. I will continue to do the National Night Out Against crime event in the Six Flags Drive area, to promote neighbors helping each other. Through my parent leadership workshops I will continue to empower parents to be a strong advocate for their children.
