Chakaya Brittney Folborg, 24, pleaded guilty Wednesday to killing her sister, Kourtney Dyches, at their Mableton home at 11 p.m. on Feb. 20, 2012.
The case had been set to go to trial on Monday, April 28.
“This victim was a vibrant young lady with the rest of her life ahead of her. The defendant, without any provocation, took a knife from the kitchen some two hours before the killing and waited until the victim was in the shower before viciously stabbing her at least six times,” said Sherwin Figueroa, assistant district attorney, in a prepared statement.
The sisters were both 21 years old at the time. Folborg had been adopted into the family as an infant.
Cobb Superior Court Judge S. Lark Ingram sentenced Folborg to life in prison. She will be eligible for parole after serving 30 years. She has been held at Cobb County Jail without bond since her arrest at the scene.
