Sara Jean Bivens Dawkins of Marietta, GA, passed away on April 14, 2014, at Tranquility Hospice in Marietta. Sara was born and raised in Charleston, WV, the daughter of Dr. Spencer Lee Bivens and Frances Jean Wilson. Sara graduated from Charleston High School with Honors, and West Virginia University, where she received a degree in Education. She later received her Masters is Chemistry, from University of West Georgia. Sara was a member of Kappa Gamma Sorority and after graduation married John Edward Dawkins and moved to Marietta, GA. Sara was a fun loving person who was very active in her church, junior league, North Cobb High School and various community activities. Sara had a passion for teaching and taught chemistry and coached the girl’s tennis team for over 25 years at North Cobb High School. Sara won coach of the year numerous times and Mother of the Year for over forty-four years. Bach, Beethoven and Chopin permeated the air from her piano, as she loved to play music and dance. Sara is survived by three children; Carol Cutts, Barbara Shaffer and David Dawkins; grandchildren, Spencer, Clinton and Leah Cutts, Ben, Jake and Jennifer Shafer, Abagail, Laney and Jed Dawkins; great-grandchildren, Emma Faye Dawkins; brother, Dr. Spencer Lee Bivens, Jr. of Charleston, WV, as well as many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, in Marietta, on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 2:00 PM. There will be a one hour visitation prior to the service.
