An Austell man is dead after a Thursday wreck at Veterans Memorial Highway and Maxham Road.

Cobb police officers are assisting the Austell Police Department with the investigation of the crash after the driver of a black 2002 Ford Expedition carrying a WaveRunner attempted a U-turn from the right lane of Maxham Road.

A blue 2008 Autocar garbage truck was driving behind the Expedition and changed lanes to pass the car on the left. As the car was closing the distance, the Ford began its U-turn, causing the Autocar to hit the left side of the vehicle. The Ford rotated clockwise and traveled into the southbound lanes and eventually stopped facing southbound on Maxham Road.

Both the trailer and the WaveRunner separated from the Expedition and each came to rest nearby.

The driver of the Expedition, 56-year-old Robert Litton of Austell, died from his injuries at Atlanta Medical Center. The driver of the Autocar, 40-year-old Dwelle Jenkins, was not injured.

No charges are expected to be filed.
