The Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre Foundation has announced the nominees in the 17 categories for the Georgia High School Musical Theater Awards, the Shuler Hensley Awards. The Shuler Awards are Thursday at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. The red carpet event begins at 6 p.m. and curtain is at 7:30 p.m. Nominations covered the following 17 categories: overall production, direction, musical direction, choreography, orchestra, scenic design, lighting design, costume design, sound design, technical execution, ensemble, leading actor and actress, supporting actor and actress, featured performer. New this year is the showstopper award. In addition to the awards a total of six scholarships will also be awarded. Pope High School has won honorable mention in Best Direction, Best Ensemble, Best Showstopper and Best Sound for “The Sound of Music.” The Walker School won honorable mention in Best Direction, Best Ensemble, Best Musical Direction, Best Musical, Best Scenic Design, Best Supporting Actor and Technical Execution for “Grease.” Walton High School won honorable mention in Best Ensemble, Best Showstopper, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress for “Into the Woods.” Allatoona High School won honorable mention in Best Leading Actor and Best Musical Direction for “The Wizard of Oz.” Mount Paran Christian School won honorable mention in Best Direction, Best Ensemble, Best Musical, Technical Execution and Best Scenic Design for “Fiddler on the Roof.” Hillgrove High School won honorable mention in Best Sound for “Into the Woods.” Pebblebrook High School won honorable mention in Best Ensemble and Best Choreography for “Les Miserables.” Pope High School is a nominee in Best Costumes for “The Sound of Music.” The Walker School is a nominee in Best Choreography, Best Lighting Design, Best Orchestra, Best Showstopper and Best Sound for “Grease.” Walton High is a nominee for Best Leading Actress and Best Orchestra for “Into the Woods.” Allatoona High is a nominee for in Best Orchestra for “The Wizard of Oz.” Mount Paran Christian School is a nominee in Best Showstopper, Best Choreography and Best Sound for “Fiddler on the Roof.” North Cobb Christian School is a nominee in Best Showstopper and Best Supporting Actor for “The Sound of Music.” Hillgrove High School is a nominee for Best Orchestra for “Into the Woods.” Pebblebrook High School is a nominee in Best Leading Actor and Best Musical Direction for “Les Miserables.” Pebblebrook is also a Shuler Award recipient in Best Showstopper for “Les Miserables.”

Fifty-nine high schools from 23 counties, representing school districts as well as private schools from throughout the state of Georgia participated this year. The Awards honor musical theatre excellence at the high school level.

Tickets for the awards ceremony, which also serves as a fundraiser for the program, are now on sale for $20 each plus applicable fees. Tickets may be purchased through Ticketmaster.com, any Ticketmaster outlet, by calling (800) 653-8000, or purchased in-person at the Bank of North Georgia Box Office at the Cobb Energy Centre.
