Smith-Gilbert Gardens will be offering docent (tour guide) training sessions for five consecutive weeks beginning last week.

These two hour, once a week sessions are designed to prepare docents to lead tours in the Gardens including providing information about plant identification, the outdoor garden sculpture, and the history of the Hiram Butler House.

“This is an opportunity for people who love the outdoors to learn about our gardens and share their knowledge with others,” said Volunteer Coordinator Jim Parks.

Docents also participate in regularly scheduled field trips to other gardens and interesting locations. Volunteer social events include a summer potluck lunch and a Christmas party.
