Heath & Lineback Engineers Inc. of Marietta earned a National Recognition Award for exemplary engineering achievement in the American Council of Engineering Companies’ 48th annual Engineering Excellence Awards for the St. Sebastian Way Project in Augusta.

Engineers worked with members of the community to shape the solution for relieving the bottleneck at the entrance to the Augusta Medical Center Complex, ensuring it fit with existing roadways and the area’s numerous cultural and historic resources. The result was St. Sebastian Way, which with an extension of Greene Street, provides more direct access to Augusta’s major roadways and interstates.

The project included six bridges, highlighted by an arch bridge across the historic Augusta Canal, two railroad crossings, canal paths and retaining walls. The project is among 143 engineering projects throughout the nation and the world recognized by ACEC as engineering achievements for 2013.
