Mardi Gras plus Birthday Dinner equals Recipe for Success! Earlier this month, an elaborate dinner party was staged at the home of Delinda and Charles Kilgore to celebrate the birthday of Judge Mary Staley, as well as Mardi Gras, or “Fat Tuesday” festivities.

The beautiful Kilgore home was decorated with colorful beads and masks later worn by the guests including Martha and Ken Farrar, Anne and Jay Fletcher, Leigh and Steve Pharr, and the honoree, Mary Staley and her husband Chuck Clark.

A traditional Mardi Gras menu was planned and prepared jointly by Delinda Kilgore along with professional chef Peter Steimle. The fare included appetizer quiche and Creole crab dip followed by crawfish and shrimp etouffee, chicken and sausage gumbo, corn and sweet onion pudding, campari and cucumber salad and smoked hocks with braised collards. The dessert was King Cake, of course.

Toasts were made with the guests enjoying authentic Pat O’Brien Hurricane cocktails. It was a great night of fun and feasting before the start of Lent and a magnificent birthday celebration with friends.

The show is set in the late 1940’s era at a live radio broadcast of a Big Band concert featuring different things such as solos and duets, and skits by an acting troop. All performers are local.

Atlanta 17, a well-known big band with ties to Marietta, is playing for the performance. Bandleader Stan DeJarnett grew up in Marietta and is a former band director at Marietta High School. His brother, Chris DeJarnett, directs the show.
