Prep Roundup: Rowling’s blast lifts Walton over Hillgrove

Henry Rowling hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to break open a 1-all tie to lead Walton to a 4-1 victory over Hillgrove on Tuesday.

Jason Rooks hit a solo home run in the sixth for insurance.

Will White pitched six innings and gave up one run on one hit and had five strikeouts to get the win. Logan Barnette pitched the seventh to finish it.

Hillgrove scored in the fourth when Greg Perkins hit a double and scored on a fielder’s choice.

Mount Paran Christian 8, Whitefield Academy 0: Mount Paran scored eight runs on six hits and held the Wolfpack scoreless to secure the Region 6A victory.

The Eagles scored three in the first, two in the second and three in the third and held on for the shutout.

Isaac Phillips hit a double and drove in two in the first inning and added an RBI in the third. Reddy Jones had an RBI groundout and Jake Palomaki had an RBI on a sacrifice in the second. Jack Rowan tacked on an RBI in the third inning with a hit.

Andrew Maxwell threw seven innings and gave up just two Whitefield hits to Bailey Combs and John Schwartz for the victory. He also had three strikeouts.

Walker 5, St. Francis 1: After tying the Region 6A game at 1-all through the first inning, the Wolverines added four runs in the third to pull away.

Gaines Lahue went 3-for-3 with a triple and a run scored, while Blake Whiting was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.

Zach Eikost (2-1) went the distance, striking out seven and allowing five hits and three walks.

Dominion Christian 10, Weber 3: Dalton Ambrun and Andrew Giles each had two-run doubles to lead the Knights past Weber.

Dominion Christian (2-1) broke the game open with six runs in the fourth on the back of Amburn and Giles hits.

Amburn finished 2-for-3 and drove in three. Giles also drove in three.

Riley Howard pitched three no-hit innings for the win.


Harrison 4, Hillgrove 2:
The Deltac brothers took care of the scoring as the Hoyas won the Region 4AAAAAA home game.

Andrew Deltac, a junior, scored all four goals, with two assisted by his freshman brother, Harry.

Mount Paran Christian 7, Excel Christian 1: Alex Gernatt scored four goals to lead the Eagles to an Area 7A victory.

Evan Piper, Joon Choi and Matthew Harrison each added a goal.

Andrew Mezei finished with two assists.

Pebblebrook 2, South Cobb 0: Arnold Martinez had a goal and an assist to lead the Falcons to a Region 4AAAAAA victory.

Severo Infante added a goal and Edgar Cortes made five saves to earn the shutout.

Allatoona 5, Woodland-Bartow 2: Griffin Rousseau scored two goals and added an assist in Allatoona’s Region 5AAAAA win.

Darnell Oliver added two goals for the Buccaneers and Will Smith claimed the fifth goal.

Both of Rousseau’s goals came in the first half as Allatoona took a 3-1 lead at the break.

Pope 3, Osborne 1: Pope pulled away early in the second half against Osborne in a Region 7AAAAA game.

The Greyhounds had a 1-0 lead at the half after Luke Scanlan scored on a header from a pass from Sean Laferle.

Matthew Laferle scored on an assist by Carlos Quintana in the second half and Tai Livnat added another Pope goal on a penalty kick. Pope had a 3-0 lead late before Osborne scored late.

Travis Parker had two saves at goal for the Greyhounds (7-2, 4-0).

Walton 2, Chattahoochee 1: Walton led 1-0 at halftime and 2-0 in the second period in picking up the non-region road win.

The Raiders (10-0) remained undefeated on the season behind a first half penalty kick goal from Chris Jensen followed by a second half goal from Jackson Crow assisted by Connor Liney.

Michael Jurick had six first half saves for Walton, while Jeffrey Lu had four.


Allatoona 6, Woodland-Bartow 0:
Willough Davis had two goals and two assists to lead the Lady Buccaneers to a Region 5AAAAA victory.

McKenzie Anderson scored two goals, Ash Das had a goal and an assist and Sammi Jacob added a goal in the win. Emily Jones earned shutout in net.

Campbell 8, McEachern 1: Sara Mitchell scored three goals to lead the Lady Spartans to a Region 4AAAAAA victory.

Jackie Howell scored twice, while Alexis Buccina, Leondra Wilder and Alma Saldana each added a goal.

Meg Thomas and Jocelyne Martinez each had two assists.

Walker 4, North Cobb Christian 0: Emily Kennerson scored Walker’s opening goal and Kendall Baker scored the remaining three and added an assist in Walker’s Area 7A win.

Megan Turner recorded the shutout at goal for the Lady Wolverines (5-1, 4-0) and had three saves.

Walton 4, North Paulding 0: Leigh Purinton and Casey Wertz scored two goals each to help Walton win its non-region game.

Emily Winokur, Lucy Sanders and Mary Leigh Amerein provided the assists.

Peyton Ryan and Michelle Watson combined for the shutout at goal.

North Cobb 4, Marietta 3 (PK): Kennedy Foals scored two goals for Marietta and Ashton Adams added one but couldn’t win the penalty kick battle in the end.

Although Marietta lost, it fared much better against North Cobb than a year ago when it lost 10-0.

The Lady Warriors ended up with two saves on penalty kicks and Marietta had one, which ended up being the difference.

Goalkeeper Grace Weiner had seven saves for the Lady Blue Devils (1-5, 1-1).


South Cobb 4, Pebblebrook 1:
The Eagles only suffered one blemish in winning the Region 4AAAAAA match.

Hassan Hassen won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 1 singles, while Nigel Thompson eased to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3.

The No. 1 doubles team of Gaven Edwards and Toriq Matthews won 6-1, 7-5 and were complemented by the No. 2 team of Kyle Ussery and Chi Anwanyu, who won 6-4, 6-0.

Pebblebrook’s Nigel Thompson won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

Pope 3, Cambridge 2: Dom Allan needed three sets, but his win helped lift the Greyhounds to a key Region 7AAAAA victory over the Bears.

Allan won 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 while Austin Bates won 6-1, 6-1 and Michael Busby 6-2, 6-2.

Walton 5, Cherokee 0: The Raiders all won in straight sets against their Region 5AAAAAA rival.

Eric Wagasky had the toughest match of them all at No. 1 singles, winning 6-2, 6-2. Other singles winners were Trevor Croyder (6-2, 6-0) and Sam Rapowitz (6-0, 6-0).

In doubles, Jonathan He and Lieb Sauermann won 6-0, 6-0, and Bailey Honig and Zoe Raymond won 6-1, 6-0.

Mount Paran Christian 5, King’s Ridge 0: The Eagles won all matches decisively except No. 2 doubles, which was won by forfeit.

Sam Fulkerson won 6-2, 6-1, Patrick Weindorfer won 6-1, 6-1 and Will Burton won 6-0, 6-0 at the three singles positions. Brent Foster and Michael Floam won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles.

Hillgrove 5, Marietta 0: Hillgrove won all of its flights in straight sets to claim the Region 4AAAAAA home win.

Maddux Mitchell won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Henry Squire was a 6-2, 6-2 victor at No. 2 singles. Davis Adams won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Joey Case and Jacob Cantrell lost two games at No. 1 doubles, and Andy Johnson and Nick Taylor lost three at No. 2 doubles.


South Cobb 5, Pebblebrook 0:
The Lady Eagles didn’t drop a set in winning the Region 4AAAAAA match.

Bola Bamidele won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Sara Darrensbourg 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 and Bisi Bamidele 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3.

Erin Kobiella and Valese Wilkerson won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, with Amber Andrews and Skye Gorman winning 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2.

Cambridge 4, Pope 1: Nisha Detchprohm was the lone victor for the Lady Greyhounds, who lost the Region 7AAAAA match.

Other than Detchprohm, who won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Pope couldn’t muster much success at any other flight, aside from a three-set loss at No. 1 doubles.

Walton 5, Cherokee 0: The Lady Raiders did not lose a single game as they rolled to a Region 5AAAAAA victory.

Suzanne Zenoni, Erica Bauer and Emily Gaskins won singles matches. The teams of Katie Riley and Sophia Guldberg and Hailey Tant and Anne Gaskins won doubles.

Allatoona 5, Lithia Springs 0: Allison Whitley and Haley Proctor each won singles matches 6-0, 6-0 to lead the Lady Buccaneers to a Region 5AAAAA victory.

Both doubles teams — Lauren Lees and Erin Neves along with Marysia Larosa and Corrie Williams — won without dropping a game as well.

Kennedy Craig completed the sweep with a 6-3, 6-4 win.

Harrison 4, McEachern 1: The Lady Hoyas won four of five matches in straight sets for the 4AAAAA win. Alexis Morris (6-1, 6-0) and Alexis Subasavage (6-1, 6-0) won at No. 1 and No. 3 singles for Harrison (5-2, 2-0).

Autumn Weakley and Mika Sugai won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles and Merritt Delandero and Sarah Gabriel prevailed 6-4, 6-0.

McEachern’s Areonna Neely won at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-0.

King’s Ridge 3, Mount Paran Christian 2: Mount Paran got straight set wins from Mary Katherine Lewis at No. 1 singles and Abby Darling and Anna Buehler at No. 1 doubles, but couldn’t come up with the clinching win.

Lewis won 6-1, 6-3 and Darling and Buehler won 6-1, 6-0. but couldn’t come up with the clinching win.

Hillgrove 4, Marietta 1: The Lady Hawks were dominant in their four victories, giving up just three games in all.

Jessica Cantrell and the doubles team of Hannah Creech and Sarah Simm shut out their opponents. Chioma Okonkwo allowed two games at No. 1 singles, while Olivia Brooks and Caroline Beldon allowed one game at No. 2 doubles.

Marietta’s Nicole Hartley rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles.


Kell 156, Northview 170:
Matthew Hines and Ryan Hines both shot 37 for low medalist in the Longhorns’ win over Northview.

Mark Decoster carded a 40 and P.J. Varner fired a 42.

Harrison third at North Georgia Invitational: Harrison shot 323 and sits in third place at the North Georgia Invitational at Barnsley Gardens in Adairsville.

The Hoyas are five shots back of leaders Peachtree Ridge (318) and Roswell (318) after the first day of the nine-team, two-day tournament.

The Hoyas’ Luke Schniederjans leads after carding a 3-over par 75, while Sam Maryland (76) is tied for second. Matt McMahon (85) and Nick Bell (87) rounded out Harrison’s scoring.


Walton 122, Etowah 127:
The Lady Raiders were trailing Etowah until Abbey Williams birdied three of her last four holes and finished with a 38.

Meredith Singer and Autumn Gaid both shot 42.

Harrison 84, Greater Atlanta Christian 92: Caroline McLeod shot a low-round 40 to lead Harrison to the victory at Brookstone Country Club.

Hailey Willman’s 44 also contributed to the team score. The top two scores were used for the match. Ana Garcia fired a 47 for the Lady Hoyas, who will take on Blessed Trinity today at Cherokee Town and Country Club.


Late Monday

Lassiter 25, Wheeler 2:
Rachael Rankin and Lucy Milles had three goals each to lead the Lady Trojans to an Area 2AAAAAA victory.

Jill Rankin finished with two goals and five assists. Alyssa Gattis, Cydney Tutchton, Annie Christian and Alex Fusco each added two goals.
