SMYRNA — A Cobb County elementary school classroom aide has been accused of slapping a 5-year-old boy with autism.

Karen Bean of Smyrna was in a pre-kindergarten classroom at Norton Park Elementary School, off Church Road west of South Cobb Drive, during the time of the incident.

According to the warrant, on Feb. 25 between 12:15 p.m. and 12:30 p.m., an autistic student spit in Bean’s face.

Bean immediately reacted to being spit on and slapped the child’s left cheek with her right hand, leaving a visible red mark, according to the warrant.

She was arrested Monday on a misdemeanor battery charge, and arrest records indicate Bean was released from the county jail on a $2,970 bond.
