Wednesday’s MDJ article highlighted the strong message City Councilman Stuart Fleming hopes to send to delinquent property owners. It was shocking learn there are 20 boarded up buildings out of the 22,000 taxable properties in the city. To think Marietta has gone so soft as to allow a noncompliance rate of 0.0009 is scandalous. Thank goodness Mr. Fleming is a hard-nosed public servant who won’t tolerate such blight. (And to think we were one vote away from suffering this injustice for another four years!)
Still, if we are to make Marietta into a tough but thriving city like San Francisco or New York City, we cannot settle for Mr. Fleming’s hope for an ordinance “with more teeth.” We need to bring back debtors’ prisons, public floggings and chain gangs. If Marietta is large enough for its own health clinic, surely it is big enough for a gulag.
Am I right comrades?
