JOHN CONDICT NEVIUS passed away on Feb 15, 2014 at the age of 99. He was born in Hornell, NY and was a graduate of Alfred University where he was trained as a ceramic engineer. He worked for Bausch and Lomb during WW II, then later General Electric and eventually at Corning Glass Works, as a research engineer. He married Beatrice Collins in 1940, and together they raised three children and were married for 66 years. He is survived by their three children: Peter Collins Nevius USMC, of Painted Post, NY, Patricia C. Nevius MD, of Marietta, GA and Carol Nevius Jones, of Coral Springs, FL; by seven grandchildren: Christopher Nevius USMC, Tricia Nevius, David Stogner, Jacqueline Stogner, Dylan Jones, Nova Jones, and Griffin Jones; and one great-grandson, John A. Nevius USMC. He loved trout fishing, traveling, reading, and bird watching as well as playing bridge and chess. As an active member of his community he was a founder and treasurer of the East Campbell Volunteer Fire Department. He was active in Boy Scouting for many years and proud of his accomplishments as an Eagle Scout. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made in his memory to Boy Scouts of America or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
