CUMBERLAND — Gas South LLC, a locally based natural gas provider, is expanding into Florida with commercial and government customers in its sights. The expansion is the first for Gas South beyond Georgia’s borders.

Established in 2006, Gas South serves more than 260,000 customers in Georgia with headquarters in the Cumberland area of Cobb County. The company will serve commercial customers in each of Florida’s major utility areas open to competition, according to a news release issued Thursday. Gas South’s service area will include the metropolitan areas of Fort Meyers, Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando and Tampa.

“Gas South strives to set the standard in Georgia by offering competitive rates, a culture of community engagement, and an unrivaled customer experience.” said Kevin Greiner, president and CEO of Gas South. “We’ll offer the same level of service and commitment to our customers in Florida. We are also committed to being an excellent business partner for Florida’s gas utilities and economic development entities.”

Nicholas Glover, a veteran of NASDAQ and American Express, has been hired to direct the expansion and will be based in Tampa.

“Gas South’s reputation as a customer-focused natural gas provider makes this an exciting opportunity,” said Glover. “We are rolling out the expansion with customized rate plans to meet the needs of our customers.”

Gas South plans to serve a range of commercial customers in Florida, including manufacturers, hotels, restaurants, dry cleaners, hospitals, schools, universities and other governmental entities.
