POWDER SPRINGS — The complexion of Tuesday’s game between Pebblebrook and Campbell changed dramatically when the Falcons’ Ty Hudson picked up his fourth personal foul with 39.2 seconds left in the third quarter and the Falcons clinging to a 43-38 margin.

The change, however, didn’t favor Campbell.

Pebblebrook went on an 11-3 run with Hudson on the bench and the Falcons went on to beat Campbell 63-49 in the Region 4AAAAAA semifinals at McEachern High School.

The top-seeded Falcons advanced to today’s championship game, where they will take on No. 9 seed South Cobb at 8:30 p.m. The fifth-seeded Spartans dropped into the consolation contest and will face No. 2 Hillgrove at 5:30 p.m.

The last time Pebblebrook won a region title was in 2008. The Falcons won the Region 5AAAA championship with a win over Lithia Springs and went on to finish the season 27-3 after advancing to the second round of the state playoffs.

“To be in this position, and playing against our back-door neighbors — who would have believed it?” Pebblebrook coach George Washington said. “I’m really excited for our program and for South Cobb and the Austell and Mableton communities. It’s going to be a dogfight. Hopefully it will be a great game and rowdy and the students will come out and support both of us. Including Campbell, the South Cobb community really represented itself well in this tournament and that’s exciting.”

Campbell’s Laz Walker, who finished with 10 points and four assists, made a jumper midway through the fourth quarter to pull the Spartans to within 43-40.

Four different players scored for Pebblebrook, which answered with an 11-0 run, was capped by Chris Nelson’s 3-pointer with 4:45 left to play.

Hudson, who finished with a game-high 26 points, six rebounds, and four assists, checked back into the game with the Falcons holding a 54-41 lead at the 3:45 mark. The advantage grew to as many as 19 points with 1:09 remaining.

“We practice a lot with Ty on the sidelines, so I wasn’t surprised we were able to go on that run,” Washington said. “He’s a very aggressive player who can get into foul trouble, so I always tell our kids to prepare for these situations. So, it happens.”

Pebblebrook led the majority of the game as Hudson scored four 3-pointers in giving the Falcons an early 12-9 lead. Pebblebrook connected on five 3-pointers in the frame, en route to a 21-13 first quarter margin.

The Falcons added two more 3s in the second. Preston Fulton’s 3-pointer gave the Falcons a 31-21 advantage, but Campbell closed the period on an 8-2 run and trailed 33-29 at halftime.

Demarre Alexander had five assists and four steals for Pebblebrook, which made eight 3-pointers. Fulton finished with eight points and Derek Ogbeide had 10 points and nine boards.

Mike Olmert hit three 3-pointers and led Campbell with 15 points and four steals. Demarcus Weaver chipped in a double-double with 13 points and 12 boards. Je’quan Ward grabbed eight rebounds. Dom Klein added seven points.
