Betty Lewallen Walters, age 71, a resident of Cobb County for 67 years, died Feb. 15, 2014, at home after an extended battle with Pick’s Disease. The Toccoa, Ga. native graduated from Robert L. Osborne High School in 1960 and married Fred Walters in 1964. Betty was a homemaker, a much loved wife, a devoted mother to her children, loving Gammy to her grandchildren, sister and friend to many. She was a member of Smyrna First Baptist Church for over 40 years where she cheerfully served her Lord and Savior. Betty was an active participant in many of the church activities. By the grace of God and with the help of many, especially Beth Carter-Anders who spent many hours caring for her, she was able to spend her long years battling dementia in the home she created and so deeply loved. She was always surrounded by those who loved her. The family wishes to express our appreciation to our many friends for your prayers, visits, food and the love you have so freely given to us. A special thanks to the wonderful staff at Camellia Hospice. Betty was preceded in death by her mother, Geneva Cash Brewer, stepfather Hugh Brewer, father Ralph Lewallen and brother Hugh Brewer Jr. She is survived by her husband, Fred Walters; son and daughter-in-law Steven and Margaret Walters; daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and Kevin Hardy; sister Carolyn Switz; brother, Quenton Lewallen; and five grandchildren, Read, Gray and Charlotte Ann Walters, Will and Caroline Hardy. The family will receive friends Monday, Feb. 17 from 2 until 4 p.m. and from 6 until 8 p.m. at Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna. Celebration of her life will be led by the Rev. Phil Miller at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb 18, at the funeral home. Interment will be held Wednesday Feb. 19 at 12:30 p.m. at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, with our dear friend, Donnie Edwards leading.
