Mr. James William Cooper, age 68 went home to the Lord on Sunday morning, February 9, 2014. At the time of his passing, Mr. Cooper resided at Autumn Breeze nursing home recovering from a recent fall and several hospitalizations. James was born to parents Laura Mabry Cooper and Edward Benjamin Cooper, Sr. on August 30, 1945 in Atlanta, Georgia. He lived most his life in the East Cobb area of Marietta, Georgia where he participated in sports as a youth and became an accomplished athlete in many different sports including the Marietta Little League, the YMCA Swim Team, the Cobb Baseball and Football Leagues. James Cooper proudly served his country as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. He served two tours in Vietnam and Okinawa. He was a member of the United States Army boxing team. After returning to the United States, James continued his boxing career and won many Golden Gloves titles including the Georgia State Golden Gloves Championship. He was an avid golfer and continued following sports all his life. His Christian faith was a hallmark of his life and he held Scriptures dear to his heart. In his youth, he became a baptized member of Chattahoochee Baptist Church. In his adult life, he attended Eastside Baptist Church and Mount Paran Church of God North. Father, Edward Cooper in 1994; mother, Laura Cooper in 2004 and sister-in-law, Dot Cooper in 1999, preceded Mr. Cooper in death. Three sisters, Betty and Jeff Hatle; Regenia Gaskin; Melba and Bob Whitesides and two brothers Edward Cooper, Jr. (Benny); Emory and Dale Cooper survive him. Nine nieces and nephews, Kaye Cooper and Johnny Garner; Shelle and David Reuland; Laura and James Lobo; Bethany and Brooke Morris; Stacy Grizzard; Jason Gaskin and Angela Sirico; Brandon and Monica Cooper; Wyman and Jordan Whitesides; and Blake Cooper; survive him. Nine great nieces and nephews, Britni, Tia, Chase Grizzard, Mabry, Lynlee Reuland, Isaac, Ian, Elijah Cooper, and Rhett Morris survive him. Aunts, Uncles, and many cousins also survive Mr. Cooper. The funeral services are on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Road, Roswell, GA 30076. The family will receive visitors Saturday from 9am to 11am, Funeral services at 11am in the Roswell Chapel with Pastor David Hayes officiating and a 12:30pm Military Honors interment at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mount Vernon Highway, Sandy Springs, Georgia 30208.
