Docent training classes at Smith-Gilbert Gardens begins Thursday

Smith-Gilbert Gardens will be offering docent (tour guide) training classes specifi cally for children’s tours for five consecutive weeks beginning Thursday.

The once a week, two-hour classes are designed to prepare docents to lead tours and assist with giving programs for children from kindergartners up to fourth grade. These programs are designed to meet the common core standards of the school system.

The classes will include information about plant identification, the Gardens sculpture and the history of the Hiram Butler house. Curricula focus specifically on children’s education and are designed by Education Coordinator Stefanie Haerynck.
