Why use tax dollars for illegals' health care?

DEAR EDITOR:

It appears the state spent over $135 million the past two fiscal years on Emergency Medical Assistance for illegal immigrants. News nugget — these people are in the U.S. illegally. They should not be rewarded with free tax-funded health care, especially when our school systems are broke and police and other public safety departments have unfilled positions.

It’s even more outrageous when you consider the state of education funding and that law abiding citizens are paying hundreds if not thousands of dollars every month to buy Obama-mandated healthcare insurance coverage. I support charity and compassion, but we have plenty of people here in Georgia legally who need it. Remember, charity begins at home.

Also, it defies belief that we don’t hear a soul at the state Capitol saying a word about these expenditures. We’re in Georgia, not California — at least I thought we were!

News Nugget - Ronald Reagan signed the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA)in 1986, There is your free, tax-funded healthcare.

And why should I pay property taxes to fund your kids' schools anyway? If you don't want to pay others' health care bills, why should others fund your schools?

You don't mind spending my money for your interests, but I don't hear you saying to take the money and build a fence accross the southwest or to repeal the 1986 bill above. The trouble is that the richest people want illegals here to drive down wages. The same leaders who say they are going to get tough on illegals do nothing about it but lip service.

Every president since Eisenhower has talked about universal health care. Romney wrote the bill for Massachusetts, as you well know. At least Obama/Romneycare embodies the notion that the people who are using it should pay something for it, unlike the bill Reagan signed. But,if you are partisan hack whose ideology blinds him, then you won't see the truth. This is true, no matter whether you lean too far left or too far right.

Of course, if you are a health care administrator, maybe you and many others are just parasites who produce nothing and are not doctors or other heath professionals, but just make a living off the system as it is, and you are protecting your job. If we go to a single payer system, we won't need you. I don't like having to pay for extra people at the doctor's office who do nothing but insurance claims. Then there is a person at the insurance company who gets paid for doing nothing useful, as well. Cut out some middlemen and healthcare would be more affordable, no? Your salary and many others are paid by those of us who have insurance, right? Who really needs you?

Republicans nationally seem poised to lend a helping hand to Michelle Nunn -- by signing on to amnesty for illegals.

This will GUARANTEE droves of conservatives stay home in disgust, come November.

The fact is that Democrats have turned this coutry into a "Clearing House" location for illegals to inhabit. Without them, and their votes, the Democrats would NOT be elected to public office!

@May-Retta: Undocumented immigrants don't vote. The children of the aforementioned who are born in the US can and will vote. No undocumented immigrant is going to take the chance of being arrested while attempting to vote. Use your head. This stupid story is a knee jerk ridiculous argument used by those people who are REPUBLICAN. I will remind you that legal Latino people voted for Obama/Biden: 71% Mittens/Dope: 27%

I think you should think of a more logical argument involving who votes. I am always amazed at your shallow headed thinking.

So let me get this straight, you would let the immigrants suffer, die, or pass on diseases to others, but your fellow citizens can go to the emergency room without insurance on your dime and that's OK? And yes we are in Georgia where rational thinking is trumped by drummed up hate for Obama.

@"drummed up": Thanks for proving my point.

The simple fact is that I, unlike you, was taught to work, earn and pay for what I need...and not expect others to provide for me. Face it, illegals have turned our country into sewer.

Do I hate Obama? No...simply becuase3 I have better things to do with my time.

Do I like Obama? No...as does 73% of the rest of the population.
Me, PC? NOT!

The key word here is "citizens". This country does not owe any illegal anything. Period.
