As a part of Up with People in 2012, Hamadi performed and traveled through the Southwest and the Northeast of the U.S. as well as throughout Europe, Asia, and South America. She was invited to once again join Up with People for this special performance at The Vatican. While performing for national and international leaders around the world was not uncommon during her travels, Hamadi said performing in St. Peter’s Square will always be a highlight of her experiences.
“It was a beautiful, sunny, clear day,” Hamadi said. “However, it was quite chilly being so close to Christmas. By the time Pope Francis arrived, we had been outside for hours and were all so cold, we questioned if we had frostbite. But, we quickly forgot about all that when we were able to perform for and meet the pope. Pope Francis was so kind, nice and funny. It was such an honor to meet him. Being able to perform for Pope Francis during his weekly audience and to also meet him was a unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I will never forget that day.”
Hamadi is the daughter of Charles and Lynda Hamadi of east Cobb. She is a 2010 Pope High School graduate and is currently a preschool teacher at Primrose School of Woodstock East while she pursues her degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. Hamadi’s mother, Lynda Hamadi, is also an alum of Up with People, having traveled with them in 1983-84. During Lynda’s time with Up with People, she also had the opportunity to perform for the Pope — then Pope John Paul II.
