The Midtown Men is in its fourth year of touring.
“We started singing together outside our Jersey Boys show in 2007. We started Midtown Men and began touring in 2010,” said Tony Award winner Christian Hoff, who forms The Midtown Men with cast members Michael Longoria, Daniel Reichard and Tony Award nominee J. Robert Spencer.
The Midtown Men bring their love of ’60s music to the stage just like they did in Jersey Boys that recently surpassed Grease as the 14th longest running musical.
“We took what we created on Broadway, the story and the music we brought to life under the glitz and glamour of Broadway. We wanted to return the favor. Everyone came to see us — over 1,000 performances — we wanted to take our show to people everywhere,” he said.
“We love singing the music of the ’60s. We love singing music together. That’s infectious. We balance that with the multiple generations that come to see us who identify with the music and it becomes a celebration together of the memories that people have of this great music. It’s been in everyone’s mind and hearts for four decades. There’s nothing like the ’60s music to allow four guys to tell the stories we have in our music, and ourselves,” Hoff said.
Like another boys-to-men band, The Midtown Men evolved from boys to men, from Jersey to Midtown.
“We wanted to get a name that related to our beginnings. For us, it’s all about where we came from. We came from Midtown Manhattan. That’s Broadway. It’s every man’s term for where all Broadway years are — Midtown Manhattan,” said Hoff, a San Diego, Calif., resident.
“There’s a story behind each song we sing and a connection to the audience. Everything we are is about connecting to the audience through the hits of the ’60s and bringing that music to life like we did for the Four Season’s music (in Jersey Boys),” he said.
