Prep Roundup: Pope cruises past Sonoraville

Pope dominated another dual match, cruising past Sonoraville for a 57-6 win Wednesday.

The Greyhounds, coming off the team title at the Cobb County Invitational, won 13 of the 14 weight classes.

Three of the wins came by pin, recorded by Josh Tazzetta (113 pounds), Sam Skinner (126) and Sean Hayden (220). Skinner only needed 27 seconds for his pin.

T.J. Collins (145), Jake Henson (160) and Colton Lombardy (170) won with major decisions, while Mack Haskin (106), Walker Yarbrough (120), Tyler Haskin (132), Zeke Weber (182) and Seth Gorman (285) won decisions. Lucas O’Reilly (215) won via forfeit.

Pope will host a quad-match Saturday, facing Wheeler, Peachtree Ridge and Dacula.

Lassiter 45, Centennial 22: Boosted by five pins, the Trojans won their final match before the Area 5AAAAAA traditional championships.

Justin Getz (106 pounds), Pat Kelley (132), Melvin Molina (182), Connor Shields (195) and Philip Murray (220) each won by pin.

Will Wiggins (120), Woody Carter (152) and Marshall Liss (160) won with decisions, with Liss’ coming in overtime.

Lassiter will be off until the area tournament, set for Feb. 1 at Etowah.

North Cobb 60, Whitefield Academy 18: The Warriors won 10 of 14 weight classes, with half the victories coming by pin.

The pins were earned by Dyllen Ivins (113 pounds), Joseph Buatu (132), Chandler Arnaud (160), Bryan Brooks (195) and Mazen Sabbagh (285).

Five others — Tyesha Topps (106), Hunter Grimm (120), Aaron Allison (126), Blaine Martinez (170) and Dillen Duplantis (182) — won via forfeit.

North Cobb will travel to Sequoyah on Wednesday for a tri-match.
