George W. Courtney, of Marietta, GA, passed away on 1/17/2014. He was born on 12/25/1921 in Toronto, Canada, moved to the US with his parents when he was 16 and graduated from Bloomfield (NJ) High School. A veteran of WWII serving as a corpsman in the US Navy, George married the love of his life, Dona G. Haffeman, on 12/29/1946. He had a varied career working at Western Electric, managed his own restaurant “Jif Jiffy” in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ and finished working with a brief stint at Will Way Corp. He was a founding member of the Paramus Congregational Church in Paramus, NJ. George retired in 1986 to Beverly Hills, FL where he and his wife spent happy years enjoying camping and travelling. In 2000, they moved to Marietta, GA to help their newly widowed daughter and her family. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marietta. He is preceded in death by his mother, Olive Ougheltree Courtney; father, Samuel W. Courtney; wife Dona G. Haffeman; and sister, Winifred Oefinger . He is survived by his brother, William S. Courtney; daughters; Cheryl (Wayne) Fisher of Milton, DE and Pamela Rivard of Marietta, GA; grandchildren Courtney (Thomas Theis) Rivard - NC, Megan (Chris) Thiel - NJ, Kristine (Curry) Lucas - GA, Andrew Fisher – NJ, Jackqueline (Andrew) Workmon - TN, and Victoria Rivard – GA; six great grandchildren – Caroline, Andrew and Jacob Workmon, Robert Theis, Olivia Lucas, Alden Thiel; and nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
