DEAR EDITOR:

Ever since the “surprise” announcement of the Braves coming to Cobb and 60 acres of virgin forest to be sacrificed for them I have waited for somebody to raise the issue of environment and wildlife habitat. Are there no environmentalists other than myself in Cobb? Does nobody know or care that this is not wasteland? It is untouched by Man since God created it and is home to untold numbers of birds and animals. There is also a beautiful lake which has been partially shaped and landscaped by Man and has a paved path around it for walking or jogging and many park benches for relaxing and taking in the surrounding sounds and sights of nature. The lake has many large fish and resident ducks. Other species come and go or rest when migrating.

Where are all these creatures to go once work begins to destroy their habitat? This land could have been designated a wildlife refuge and preserved for future generations. Are we who love nature going to stand idly by and let this happen without even a protest? I hope not.

Aside from who is buying the land, actually, I believe it's private property and the owner may sell it to whomever he/she wants. Would you want your fellow Cobb Countians to step in and tell you that you couldn't sell your own private property?

Actually, what is shocking about environmentalists is that oftentimes, unless there is a leftist agenda, they are strangely quiet. I do have one question, why has this not been public before now? This whole Braves thing is about nothing but money. And a lot of people are going to benefit from them coming.
