Prep Roundup: Marietta bests McEachern in dual

On the strength of four pins, Marietta beat McEachern 36-24 on Wednesday, in a tune-up for this weekend’s county tournament.

Jason Caldwell (106 pounds), Anthony Neary (160), Jonathan Gates (170) and Isaiah Borne (195) each had pins for the Blue Devils, who improved their dual record to 18-9 on the season.

Daniel Leon (113), Jelani Miller (120), Alex Ambio (152) and Jeron Holsey (285) won by decision.

Timothy Noble (132) and Abdul Muhammad (138) had pins for McEachern, with Noble needing only 50 seconds.

Sean Edwards (126) and Christian Wade (220) won by decision, with Wade’s coming in overtime.

Both teams will participate in the traditional-style county tournament, set for Friday and Saturday at Sprayberry.

Kell 61, North Cobb 16: The Longhorns recorded eight pins and won 11 of 14 bouts in a non-area dual.

Matthew Springfield (120 pounds) scored a pin, as did Alec Prokop (138), Cody Ashway (145), Sam Ashway (152), Calvin Irby (160), De’Arate Pernell (182), Jake LeCroy (220) and John Scarpantonio (285).

Brian Link (132) and Devin Baker (170) each had decisions, while Cole Pellisero won via forfeit at 195.

Tyesha Topps scored a decision at 106 for North Cobb, while Dillen Ivins (113) and Aaron Allison (126) won via forfeit.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Late Tuesday

Atlanta Girls 41, Dominion Christian 17: Bailey Fawcett just missed a double-double, with 11 points and nine rebounds, but the Lady Knights lost the GISA Region 1AAA game.

Brianna Zambo had seven rebounds for Dominion, which will host Heritage School on Friday.
