POWDER SPRINGS — A 23-year-old Powder Springs man was arrested this month fter police say he struck a police car three times and evaded officers in a 115 mph chase.

Kahlil Harper was arrested by Powder Springs Police on Jan. 5 at 1:40 a.m. after, according to a warrant, he assaulted Lt. Cochran with a deadly weapon, striking the marked patrol car three separate times with a 1993 black Ford Mustang at a “near head-on angle.”

According to the warrant, the first strike occurred on Richard D Sailors Parkway while Cochran was attempting to make a traffic stop for Harper driving in excess of 20 mph over the speed limit. The warrant then said Harper fled the scene on the divided road, going westbound in the east bound lane, running traffic lights and eluded the pursuing police vehicle in excess of 115 mph in a 55 mph zone.

Once apprehended on Humphries Hill Road, Harper declined to be tested for alcohol, but admitted he had been drinking, the warrant said.

Harper was arrested on two felony charges of eluding a police officer and aggravated assault, as well as the misdemeanors racing on highways or streets, reckless driving and open container.

He was released Friday on a $7,500 bond.
