KENNESAW — More than half of the faces on Kennesaw’s City Council changed Monday night when three new members were sworn in.

Debra Williams, a small business owner, Jim Sebastian, an insurance expert, and former Kennesaw Mayor Leonard Church were sworn into office by members of their families and close friends. They replaced former council members Matt Riedemann, Jeff Duckett and Bruce Jenkins, respectively.

Two council members remained on the council, Cris Welsh and Tim Killingsworth. The council met for a work session and a regular meeting Monday, after a previous work session was canceled because of the New Year’s holiday.

I understand that the new Council is off to a rocky start with relations to the Mayor. Did he veto an appointment already put up by the Council? Why was he giving them a hard time as to the procedure would be for swearing in new members? Rather than trying to 'get along' with the new lineup on the Council it seems that he wants to bump heads with them right from the start. If he dosen't like things now that he is a 'lame duck' mayor then he might want to resign and go back to washing Metro ambulances for a living.

Hello Legal 10. You are correct! They are off to a Rocky Start! Yes the Mayor did Veto and from which I understand is a rare move in Kennesaw. 3-2 was the vote and from what I saw first hand, is that the bullying has started towards the Newly Elected Members of the City Council. Is this ever going to end? Will this Mayor ever grow up and do what is best for the people? Or is it just giving into to friends? My God, the people of Kennesaw are on to you Mark Mathews. You cannot continue bucking the Council or the System. It seems as though Rules and Charters change DAY TO DAY on a Whim if you think they should. First it was who they were having swear them in, that was finally resolved. Thank God! Now, because one of your former cronies wanted someone on a committee that the Council gave explicit answers as to why this particular person should not serve again, it was though all hell broke loose. If you are going to be a leader for this City, then be a leader! If not kindly step down and leave the position to someone much more educated and qualified to run a city. You, Mr. Mark Mathews are not the Veto King of this State, just because something does not suit you. The People are really getting tired of you and your neglect for this City. If you want to be the Leader, then act like one!
